Vom Historiker des Hauses OUR PAST PRESIDENTS The annual membership meeting for the election of officers and directors was conducted on 27 January 1931. Sigmund Odenheimer who had served as president for more than two years declined that nomination, stating that he believed in the democratic principle of "rotation in office." The membership elected Bruno Prager as
president, Joseph Reuther as First VP, Charles Mauthe as Second VP, M.S. Senton as
Treasurer, Paul J. Sendker as Secretary and Board of Directors, Fritz Baldenhofer,
Bernhard Gerhardt, Henry Kraak, Frank Langbehn, Adam A. Muhleisen, K.M. Rahm, Jr., M.G.
Rapp, Peter Rothschmitt, Fr. Weber and Albert Weiblen. With a payment of $3,350.00 on a second note of $5,000.00, which had been extended six months until 10 January 1931, there remained a debt of $11, 350.00 on the original purchase price of the Haus. A third note of $10,000.00 was being serviced by interest payments only. The six lane bowling alley proved to be a great asset and provided much pleasure and entertainment to many of the Haus members Colonel Richard A. Kuntz, AUS (Ret)

| Crescent City Homebrewers: Brewing Beer and Good Times by Lisa Hollis This is the second in a series of occasional profiles on the many organizations which meet at the Deutsches Haus.
The Crescent City Homebrewers are busy preparing for their 11th annual Crescent City Competition and Crawfish Boil, so this seemed like a great time to let the Deutsches Haus membership learn more about this organization. CCH member Charles Sule was kind enough to provide some details about the history of the club and their activities, so I thank him for his helpfulness. The Crescent City Homebrewers was founded in September 1980, and currently has 142 members. The purpose of the organization is to encourage the homebrewing of beer and to share brewing knowledge. Membership in the CCH requires only two things: payment of the $30 annual dues and the making of at least one batch of homebrew per year. Meetings, which are held on the first Wednesday of each month at the Haus at 7:00 p.m., include tastings and critiques of members brews. This years officers include president Brenda Hagsetette, vice president Tom Martinez, secretary Mike Biggs, and treasurer Ronald "Ron" J. LaBorde. A number of special events make up the yearly calendar for the homebrewers, including their annual fundraiser, the Winterfest, held each November and featuring homemade beer, wine, music and food, as well as the LATEX, a get-together with clubs from Louisiana and Texas held in Jennings, LA. The highlight of the year for the CCH is their upcoming competition and crawfish boil, scheduled for April 10th through April 13th. at the Deutsches Haus. The judging portion of the competition will start at 6:00 p.m., on Wednesday, April 10th Thursday, April 11th, Friday, April 12th and concludes on Saturday, April 13th with the award ceremony and the crawfish boil, held beginning at 3:00 p.m. and the raffle/award presentation will begin at 6:00 p.m. The crawfish boil is $20 per person and includes crawfish, red beans and rice and beer; for those not eating crawfish, the cost is $10 per person. Entries for the competition must be received no later than Friday, April 5th, and the entry fee is $6 per entry. Chairmen for this years competition are Warren A. Chigoy, Jr., and Danny Duggan. For more information about the competition, call Warren at (504) 914-8836.
