Traditional Volksfest set for May 12
Once again an old Deutsches Haus tradition is taking
place. Our annual Volksfest is set for Saturday, May 12. An eirler date was chosen this
year than in recent ones to beat the summer heat and humidity. Doors open at 4:00 p.m. an
hour earlier than in previous years.
Beginning at 5:00 food will be served. Tom Shinn Haus President and
Festival Chair, says we'll be adding a special new Wurst to the menu, a smoked Brat. Other
items include regular Bratwurst, Knackwurst, WeiBwurst, and Sauerbraten: Sauerkraut,
Rotkaut, and potato salad.
Two Bands are to be featured. Rocky's Hot-trot Orchestra performs at
5:00 p.m., and the Ira Milan Polka Band takes over at 8:30. Of course, there will be a
good selection of imported beers, wins, and schnapps, and souvenir counter will be open.
Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for teens, and free for pre-teens.
Members of the Haus, the Ladies' Auxiliary, the Sängerchor and Damenchor are admitted at
no charge, as are their guest, one per member.
Festival volunteers will be appreciated. Please call the Haus to sign
up. Especially needed are volunteers for food preparation on Thursday and Friday, May 10
and 11, from as early as 4 p.m.

speckled-trout dinner
We're going to try something new a last-Saturday social.
At its January meeting the Board of Director decided to consider something
new: a fourth or fifth Saturday social. We want your input on this. Is it a good idea or a
bad one? Please let us know what you think. The first would be a speckled-trout dinner on
Saturday, March 31.
