Work Party Saturday Dec. 11th at 9 AM The Deutsches Haus monthly Arbeitstag (work party) will take place on December 11th at 9:00 AM, preceding the annual family Christmas Party on Sunday. We need your help to prepare the Haus for Saint Nicholas and his knapsack of Christmas presents for good girls and boys. Thanks to the Ladies Auxiliary, we’ll awaken you with dozens of Krispy Kreme donuts, bananas, and fresh steaming hot coffee! And an appetizing Subway sandwich lunch will be provided by the Ladies later in the day. Each month we tend to the continuing repairs and needs of a busy Haus constantly in use. We can use your skills, organizational abilities and strong backs to keep the Haus running smoothly. We rely on an active membership to pitch in and keep us going. We always have fun while we work and the Ladies see that you eat well! Besides, there’s the satisfaction of knowing that you have made a positive contribution to the activities of the Haus. For more information, contact Tom Shinn, Haus Chairman, at 865-7101 or the Haus Steward at 522-8014 or E-mail Barbara at medwriter@bellsouth.net. Please give us a hand! |

Annual Haus Family Christmas Party Dec. 12th at 3 PM Saint Nicholas is on his way to reward all the good boys and girls at Deutsches Haus – and that means all of our children. Parents will bring a gift-wrapped and gift-tagged toy up to $10.00 in value for each child and Saint Nicholas will give out the gifts and speak to each child individually while the Haus photographer takes Polaroid pictures of the event free to each parent as Christmas mementos. Please don’t think that this party is for parents and grandparents only. Many members without children or children in town attend for the pleasure of watching our future members enjoy themselves and to participate in the holiday festivities. Everyone is invited and welcomed. Mr. and Mrs. Clown will perform their amusing routines and we will have a short (27 minute) Disney sing-along, with lyrics provided for each family. And, as usual, the food is home-cooked and delicious, with something for everyone, including a special child-friendly menu including hot dogs and hamburgers, macaroni and cheese, Jell-O, puddings, cookies and cupcakes, as well as appetizers, finger sandwiches, sliced baked turkey and cheese, veggies and salads to please even the most discriminating grown-up kids. You can enjoy the food and still be heart-healthy. All this for $6.00 per adult and child by advance reservation only. Deadline for reservations is December 10th or call Phyllis Lesage at 271-3232.

Election of Board Members & Officers Tuesday Jan 25th, 2005 Ray Garrity, Chairman of the Deutsches Haus Nominating Committee, will once again lend his expertise to the Haus to guide us through the complexities of our annual election of officers. Any active member in good standing (dues paid by December 2004) for more than one year can run for the Board and our membership is encouraged to nominate fellow members they would like to see take a more pro-active part in guiding and making decisions for the Haus. Please make certain that your nominee agrees to run and provides Ray with a brief biography and statement of purpose, which can be made available to the membership. The deadline for submitting nominations for election to the Board is Thursday, January 6th, 2005, although nominations can be made from the floor. You are encouraged to take part in the process; please make note of the date on your calendar, so that you are able to participate. If you have any questions, please contact Ray Garrity at rgarri4533@aol.com or leave your inquiries with the Haus Steward. |

The Ladies Auxiliary The Ladies Auxiliary wants to thank all the volunteers who contributed to making the cake sales at Oktoberfest so successful and enjoyable. We particularly want to thank Polly Swan for arranging for the donation of the cake stand and Anne Farmer for her hard work and imaginative decorations in preparing the stand for Oktoberfest. Please watch the Haus Calendar and your E-mails for future Auxiliary activities. We are arranging another folk dancing session on February 11, 2005 in conjunction with our monthly meeting. Our annual election of officers is scheduled for Friday, October 10th at 8 PM. Please attend. |

Who Are These Dashing Handsome Young Men?
Can you name all the devil-may-care revelers sitting around this table at the Haus on New Year’s Eve 1960? This photograph was carried for over 40 years in the wallet of one of our members and was restored by Wilson Revelle from its shabby state. If you can identify all the participants in the celebration at the Haus, please notify Barbara Fineberg at medwriter@bellsouth.net and you will be awarded a free beer by one of the mysterious young men still active at the Haus! |
